The department of Classical music offers numerous courses for all levels.
The courses are designed to follow the growth of the student’s musical abilities and to achieve a high level competence in music, including: sight reading and composition, collaborations with other instruments and singers, improvement of technical and expressive skills, and ear training ability.
PIANO
This course provides individual instruction of the student’s major performance medium. During the hour-long lesson our instructors will help each student learn and refine the techniques associated with their instrument or particular area of focus.
The courses are designed for three different levels:
- 1) Beginners: From the very first lesson, students are taught the basics of music reading and writing, and the execution of simple compositions.
- 2) Intermediate: Students will refine their technical and musical competence studying more complex pieces. Compositions will be analyzed from a harmonic, rhythmic and melodic point of view.
- 3) Advanced: Includes; repertoire analysis and interpretative studies of major works. All compositions will be analyzed from a harmonic, rhythmic and melodic point of view.
VOICE
This course provides individual instruction of the student’s major performance medium. During each hour-long lesson students will gain a basic understanding of technique and development the voice. Students will pay close attention to breathing, tone development and vocal diction.
The courses are designed for three different levels:
- 1) Beginners: breathing techniques, diction, support and development, and simple vocalization. Repertoire: Arie Antiche, Chamber Music and Art Song.
- 2) Intermediate: a more intensive study of breathing techniques, proper support, diction, vocalization (scales and arpeggios). Repertoire: Bel Canto Art Song & Opera Arias (Bellini, Donizetti, Rossini).
- 3) Advanced: refining technique (support and vocal production), lyric diction (including a German & French, study of stage craft), vocalization (advanced scales and arpeggios) and overall song interpretation. Repertoire: Lieder; Mélodies; Italian, French and German Opera.
VIOLIN AND VIOLA
